Sour Wine & Cheese

Started out good and then by the end it turned into one big disaster.

Anyways I snapped some reference photos then rendered my illustration it with warm grey Tria markers. Not sure why, but I absolutely hate the Tria brand, whatever happened to the old school Letraset markers? Those were the bomb, maybe I'll invest in some Copic markers next year.

Stuff I learned:
- Don't rush with markers especially wet on wet (black smudges)
- Don't create a background with markers unless you've sketched it first
- Don't overlap too many shades, or you get that wash off shiny effect
- AVOID black contour lines when trying to achieve realism (bad habit!)
- Figure out your highlights before coloring in the whole piece
- Make sure to have something solid if you do fill in highlights

Charcoal Portrait

Alright so for observation drawing I needed to draw a portrait in charcoal and it has to be due for tomorrow. I'm a procrastinator so that means late nights with lots of coffee. Chose to draw Sara Quin as a tribute to their new album coming out "Sainthood".

Approx spent 6hrs on this so far, still have another hour to invest. Did i mention that this portrait is 19x25?
