Kernel Sanders
Illustration & Design: Year 1
Project: Caricature Sculpture
Time: 2Hrs
This project was pretty fun. Our assignment was to choose a recognizable figure and sculpt a caricature of them with any type of material we wanted to use. I had a couple of ideas, but a friend of mine suggested doing Kernel Sanders as a joke and well I just couldn't resist the idea. I have to admit I was a little concerned at first because I wasn't quite sure how to go about the project, but after a couple sketches the idea and materials needed seemed a bit more clear.
For instance I started off with paper mach and newsprint, it was a total and utter fail. So instead of frustrating myself over glue and newspaper I decided it be best to buy a Styrofoam head at the wig store. Bought the head, and later used Model Magic clay for the features of the face. The body of the sculpture was regular bed foam, stacked and glued together. I carved off the shoulders and then dressed him with fabric and ribbon for his bow. The face was later spray painted and cotton balls were glued for facial hair. The remaining details were painted, and props were added to ensure some redeeming qualities of the caricature.
Hope you enjoyed!
